Holistic Soil Management
Healthy soil = healthy plants. Soil needs to be active in order for your plants to thrive.
All of our tree planting are inoculated with APF Biochar - Micronutrient Tree Mix and organic compost to help increase the biology in the soil.
Biochar is made by heating biomass in the absence of oxygen - a process known as pyrolysis. Biochar contains about half of the carbon and one-third of the mass of the original biomass feedstock (Lehmann and Joseph, 2015).
Mycelium serves an important function in the decomposition of organic matter in the soil. Some research has demonstrated that it acts as a filter, removing ground water contaminants and pollutants.

Soil Injection Treatment
The soil treatment we offer increases the natural soil biology and encourage new root growth by injecting liquid into the soil. Interns of beneficial fungi, bacteria, and available food for microorganisms within the soil. Our treatment is a mix of mycorrhizal fungi, beneficial bacteria, biochar, and freshwater hummates. These fungi and bacteria help to increase water and nutrient absorption, and increase the amount of available mineral nutrients in the soil.
Biochar is not intended to fertilize the trees, but instead to activate soil biology and increase activity, this creates a beneficial environment for new root development.
Plant Health Care
Managing and husbanding the surrounding environment is vital for the longevity of your trees. Plant health care aims to manage the health and appearance of all plants within a landscape. Trees are often competing with grass and other plants for water and nutrients, and other stressors such as drought, soil compaction, and lawn equipment can often create a negative environment for trees where disease can fester and lead to decline.

Protecting your trees from lawn equipment and foot traffic can do wonders for their health. By installing a mulch ring around the trees base, weed trimmers will no longer scuff and wound it and foot traffic will no longer compact the soil.

Aeration is a common practice in helping to loosen and enrich the soil within the root zone. By drilling holes within the root zone, and then covering the area with a rich natural bark mulch, nutrients are returned to the soil and room is created for it to breathe and absorb those nutrients.
Soil amendments are often necessary to help trees get the nutrients they need to thrive. pH tests and soil samples can help us prescribe the necessary amendments that your tree needs.
